Pop goes the weasel, sort of.

We had a mink in our tiny pond yesterday. Anne called me and I grabbed the camera and watched the pond. At first I didn't see anything and thought it had left. Suddenly a head popped up and it was covered in duck weed. It was probably looking for frogs. Shooting the moon

I had the wrong settings as I was set up for photographing the supermoon, was shooting through glass at dusk. I changed setting quickly and fired off a few shots. All in all not too bad. Just at dusk Anne noticed a mink at the pond in our yard. It was diving in, probably looking for frogs. It worked its way through the upper area and then rolled in the grass. A surprise visitor.

I saw an animal that I thought was a squirrel near our small pond but when I looked closely I realized it was a mink. We have had them in the yard before but not hunting in the pond. It dove into the pond which is not much bigger than the mink. It came out with a frog which it left on the grass. It went back several more times and caught more frogs. I went outside to get better photos and it seemed to scent me and started taking his prizes away. Neovison vison Minks are a voracious predator, and they eat a wide variety of prey and will store any surplus to eat later. source -arkive.org
