Don't worry, be happy

Image
I haven't looked up the type of dragonfly this is but it is probably the Happy Face Dragon. Numerous dragonflies of several types are showing up in our yard. Lighten up and smile.

You know you're in a ritzy neighbourhood when..

their signs are for an elegant bird like the sandhill crane. The ones I usually see are for ducks and occasionally a goose. This was down in Florida near Sarasota.

We don't do Walmart 'round here.

Image
We got a Ya'llmart and that's just fine with us. It's amazing what you can find on the back roads of Florida. I like the sentiment.

Is it still acupuncture?

Image
Saw this sign over in Michigan and at first glance, Anne thought it said Needless Acupuncture. If you don't use needles isn't it acupressure?

The towel warmers

Image
There is something special about a nice warm towel when you get out of the shower especially when it is cold outside. Have you ever stayed at a fancy hotel where they have a heated towel rack? Well this is the home version.

Extremely rare in Canada except for the east coast. We found this rusty puffin near the northern end of the Welland Canal. The Falls which can be hard on ships. so they built the canal to go around them. See Harry we do get them here.

Love this sign.

Someone has a wonderful sense of the absurd. We saw this sign on our birding field trip to Amherst Island where we went to see the lark bunting. I always appreciate a slightly off centre sense of humour.

Really? I thought squirrels were bad.

Image
Really? I thought squirrels were bad. , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. You can buy feeders that are supposed to be squirrel proof and even a few that are racoon resistant but I don't think there are any commercial deer baffles. We looked out to see a white tailed deer eating out of the platform feeder. Shins on the baffle for balance and muzzle stuck into the feeder, the tongue flicking around like an anteater's. I know there are deer flies, I have been bitten by them often enough, but I'm not aware of a deer bird. The deer are welcome to clean up under the bird feeders but I think this is just being greedy. You can see a standard sized baffle on the feeder in the foreground, actually there are two baffles as our squirrels are creative. The baffle on the platform feeder is a custom made one that even keeps racoons at bay but evidently not deer. Odocoileus virginianus

Merry Christmas (view to see the message) , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. We three kings of avian are Migrant birds who travel afar. Fluff and feather, snowy weather, Pooping on yonder car. What did you expect from a birder. (Verse sent to me by a friend, original source unknown. I'm not that creative.)

Hiding in plain sight

Image
Hiding in plain sight , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. Ozzie was hiding in the bag so Crash couldn't see him. Ozzie was planning a sneak attack but it didn't work for some reason.

Unusual grass

Unusual grass , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. If you read the sign you might question what type of sod they sell. Have a good weekend.

The wedding was out of this world.

Image
The wedding was out of this world. , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. No horse drawn carriages for this couple. Not sure why, but when I saw this I thought of Michael Jackson. We saw this at a junky type of store in north western Ohio a few years ago. A recent trip back to the area revealed that the store was gone and so was the rocket wedding.

I don't think he understands the concept of a box.

I don't think he understands the concept of a box. , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. Ozzie thinks he's hiding in a box and is ready for a sneak attack on Crash. I think Crash figured it out.

and he doesn't even like water.

Image
and he doesn't even like water. , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. Ozzie seems to have found a new place for having his naps. Not what I expect first thing in the morning. Spiders, sure, but not cats.

Is it just me or are models getting skinnier everyday?

Is it just me or are models getting skinnier everyday? , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. On the last day of our birding trip to Spain this spring we spent a day wandering in Barcelona. Down one of the back streets we saw this display. I find that models are unrealistically thin. Can you se the average woman wearing this outfit?

Broken beer? Who you gonna call?

Do you think the iphone generation will recognize this?

Image
Do you think the iphone generation will recognize this? , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. When I saw this at a scenic overlook in Spain I laughed. How many young tourists who use their smart phones for cameras would know what this represents. Truly old school.

Happy Monday

Image
Happy Monday , a photo by ricmcarthur on Flickr. I don't know what they were selling but I will take a dozen. We saw this little store in the back streets of Barcelona. Sounds like their product would be a hit in north America.
