This is the Cercropia caterpillar and it is 55 mm long. About the size and thickness of a thumb.

This gull sat staring at the sand bank for about 4 minutes, then it started to look around. The bonaparte gulls seemed to be shunning it.

It was feeding on a plant called a tick tre foil.

anybody know what it is? It is about 1 inch (2.5cm) long.
