White crowned sparrow Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur We went to a compost pile a few miles from where we live to try to find a Harris sparrow which had been seen in the area. The harris is a rare bird in Sout western Ontario. While we were waiting this white crowned posed so nicely I had to take his photo. I have a bad photo of the Harris which isn't up to posting quality

Water please. Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur We have water for the birds in the mild seasons but it can be hard to provide water in the winter. We bought a vegtable serving tray, the kind with 4 or 5 sections at the dollar store. It's easy to clear the ice out, just like an ice cube tray, and add water from a jug. The birds love it.
