Something in the air
and I had a shower this morning.
I was upwind and couldn't get close before he smelled me and took off.
Just one of the challenges with nature photography.
At least flowers don't run away.

A different point of view
This was taken above Bluff, New Zealand, on the south coast of the south island.
They warn you that it is a steep grade but they don't bother with guard rails.
Evidently they feel you should be able to tell the difference between a road and empty air.
In North American there would be all sorts of barriers, wouldn't want to get sued.

Early bird
No worms today.
About - 12c, lots of snow.
I think half the birds in the park are at our feeders today including the doves.

The colour of spring
A common bird in our area during the spring and summer.
Oh it's just another yellow is often heard, but right now it would be a treat.

A summer garden
It's only January and I'm tired of winter.
This is the yard on the lakeside of the cottage.

Love letters in the snow.
It's wonderful to be in love.
This was on Rondeau Bay along with two people sculptures.
Nice firm, crisp snow, the kind I think is good for making igloos.
You can carve a chunk out and stand it up.

Canadian cotton plantation.
We grow our cotton a little bit differently than they do in the southern states.

HEY! I just shovelled that!
Shovel the snow, shovel the snow.
As soon as you clear the drive way, here comes the plough.

House hunting?
We have had house wrens nest in the yard for two summers.
This is the first time Carolina wrens have shown any interest in the wren house.
I don't know if this is early nesting behaviour or if the are just aggressive in their feeding.
there were two of them and they seemed to be clearing out last years left overs.

Yellow rump warbler
Another 4 inches of snow last night, not much by east coast standards, but still has to be shovelled.
A reminder of spring.

Australian floods
We were in Australia in November 2009.
I thought this sign, which had obviously been under water was funny.
Who needed indicators ahead when the water was already this deep.
In view of the tragedy going on now it isn’t quite so humorous.

Quick bath
An ice water melt is the only water available for bird baths.
Better make it quick before your feathers freeze!
